My approach

My philosophy and therapeutic approach

A therapeutic approach that embraces mind, body and soul

I believe the therapeutic journey is a co-creation. You choose the direction, and I am your co-pilot. You hold all the answers, even if you are not aware of them yet. I act as a mirror so that you can see yourself better, as you step back to observe yourself, perhaps for the first time.

I also believe that whatever dark night of the soul you are going through, there is potential for change in this very crisis.

Transpersonal psychology

I practice transpersonal psychology (or psychology of the soul), which means that I see my clients as both human beings and spiritual beings. We have a body, thoughts, and feelings that make up our human experience. Our five senses very much allow us to connect with this earthly existence. But we also have an innate capacity for intuition, an expansive sense of meaning, purpose, and belonging to the greater whole, where all living beings are interconnected.

Spiritual, here, is not intended in the religious sense. Transpersonal (or spiritual) psychology holds that we all have infinite potential to connect deeply and joyfully with Life, to feel awe and connection with others, nature and universal consciousness.

Love and will

Throughout our sessions, I offer my knowledge and experience of how we build our sense of self, our identity and our defenses to help you understand yourself and remove ways of being or thinking that no longer serve you or may even be hurting you. I believe that by feeling truly seen and understood, we can develop greater love and acceptance for ourselves.

It is by developing this love for ourselves that we can then harness the will to make changes in our life. The combination of love and will allows us firstly to observe ourselves with kindness and empathy, and then to make use of this newfound awareness; to start doing things differently and to activate our ability to lead a more authentic and fulfilling life.

Transpersonal psychology recognises the richness of exploring not only our current and past issues, but also our potential for inspiration, awe and higher purpose.

Talk therapy alongside creative and self-awareness techniques

Techniques that honour the wisdom of your whole being

While talk therapy is the foundation of our work together, I may suggest guided visualisations, role play or drawing to support your growing awareness and understanding of yourself.

There is much wisdom in our body sensations, imagination and creative expression. I work with all these aspects as they show up for you in your unique way, holding space and unconditional empathy for all of your being.

The values that guide my practice

Creating a therapeutic alliance with you

In the therapy world, we talk about the need to establish an alliance based on trust and collaboration between the counsellor and the client. And like any relationship, it evolves and requires constant nurturing.

I honour these five core values when working with you:

Empathy

Care and kindness as you share your precious thoughts, feelings and experiences with me.

Non-judgement

I am not here to form an opinion of your actions or what goes on in your head.

Unconditional acceptance

I welcome all of you, including the aspects you may struggle with or feel ashamed of.

Respect

I make a point of honouring your pace and needs in session.

Curiosity

I have a genuine desire to get to know you and to discover your inner world.

Confidentiality and ethical conduct

It is vital for you to know that my office is a safe space. Everything that happens in the therapeutic space is confidential.

I follow the Ethical Framework of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP), which sets out the ethical principles and good practice standards for members of the counselling and psychotherapy professions.

How therapy works

The main stages of therapy

I offer in-person counselling sessions in Geneva. There are generally 4 main stages we will go through together. Each journey is different and it is not always linear, and that’s OK.

1

Beginning

We start with an assessment session, after which we decide whether we wish to continue working together.

2

Building our relationship

We continue with 4-5 sessions, building trust and safety between us. If needed, we adjust depth, pace and focus.

3

Deepening

As weekly sessions evolve, we are generally becoming more skilled at noticing and understanding your belief and behaviour patterns. Potential for change emerges.

4

Ending

We complete with 2-3 closing sessions, grounding learnings and ensuring emotional stability.
